Why Wednesday Night Prayer Is the Heartbeat of Our Church

09 March 2026 · admin

Wednesday is the middle of the week. Everything is in full swing — lectures, deadlines, meetings, traffic. Pretoria does not slow down on Wednesday evenings. So when a group of people from all over the city stops what they are doing, drives to Plot 68 Zwavelpoort, and spends an hour in prayer together — that is not a small thing. That is a statement.

It says: there is something more important than my schedule. There is a power available to this community that no strategy or programme can manufacture. And we are going to access it together, mid-week, whether it is convenient or not.

Why Prayer Meetings Still Matter

The prayer meeting is one of the oldest and most undervalued institutions in the church. In an era of polished Sunday productions, the mid-week prayer meeting looks unglamorous. There is no stage design. No carefully curated playlist. Just people, bringing real burdens to a real God, together.

But look at every significant movement of God throughout church history and you will find a prayer meeting at the root of it. The upper room. Azusa Street. The Welsh revival. Power did not come through better programmes. It came through sustained, corporate, desperate prayer.

What Happens at Our Wednesday Night Prayer

Our Wednesday prayer meeting is at 7PM every week. It is open to everyone. What you will find is not a performance — it is a gathering. We worship. We bring specific requests. We pray for the church, for Pretoria, for South Africa, for families going through hard seasons, for students under pressure, for breakthroughs that have been a long time coming.

And something happens in that room that is difficult to explain but impossible to deny. People leave lighter. They leave with a different perspective on their week. They leave having encountered something real.

Come and See

If you have never been to a prayer meeting — or if you have been away from one for a long time — we want to invite you. This Wednesday, 7PM. Plot 68 Zwavelpoort, Atterbury Road, Pretoria.

Bring whatever is weighing on you. That is exactly the right thing to bring.

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” — James 5:16
